Come to a horticulture workshop with expert John Ameroso, who will discuss
soft plant pruning, trimming, and thinning, propagation, and reseeding.

Saturday, September 13th @ 11:00am

This workshop will take place in Dias y Flores Community Garden,
Located at 520-522 East 13th Street, between Avenues A&B

John Ameroso has been working in the fields of horticulture and agricultural production since 1964. In 1976, he piloted the Urban Gardening Program with Cornell University Cooperative Extension, successfully setting the groundwork for Extension education in urban horticulture and food production for New York City. He is currently working with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s New Farmers New Markets Program which received the “Community and Rural Development Innovator Award” from Cornell University.

This workshop is sponsored by Dias y Flores Community Garden and is free to the public.

Creative and practical art instruction will provide the beginner with the knowledge needed to confidently draw out their natural talent. A series of meditative and playful exercises will prime the pump and bring the beginner to a quicker understanding of subject.

Through the study of creative line, identifying shapes, and knowledge of value and textural relationships, the student will begin to compose confident drawings inspired by nature.

Drawing classes taught by New York City artist, Barbara Slitkin.

Saturdays at 11:00 am on: July 19, 26, August 2 & 9(Rain date make up classes will be the following Sunday)

This project is made possible in part with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York Department of Cultural Affairs and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

All classes are free and open to the public, space permitting.

Kung Fu

Dias Y Flores in conjunction with Sifu Hung Man Gong is offering eight free classes in Hung Fut Pai also known as Buddha Palm Style Kung Fu which is a type of Southern Shaolin Gung Fu.

No previous experience is necessary. Classes will not involve any full contact fighting. The concentration will be on breathing, movement, timing, and mental focus. Refresh your mind body and Spirit with us in one of the villages most beautiful community gardens.

Mondays & Thursdays at 6 pm on: July 21, 24, 28, 31, August 4, 7, 11, 18(Rain date classes will be on tagged on to the end of the run)

All classes are free and open to all age groups.
